Scoliosis Success Story
I met Dr. Laura Lardi at a wellness seminar hosted at Goodness Me. She was so passionate about everyone being given the chance, the knowledge, the tools, to be the healthiest “whole” person one can be. She also explained that if your whole body; mind, muscles, tissue, nervous system etc wasn’t working at optimal levels YOU are missing out on having a body that protects and promotes good health. So I decided to meet up with her to chat about my own personal story.
I was diagnosed with scoliosis around the age of 13 (now age 37). I was told there was nothing I could do, other than hope that the spinal curves didn’t progress over my life to require rods and braces. So I lived in fear, always holding a hand-held mirror up to my bathroom mirror to continuously self-diagnose if the curve had changed.
I was, ALWAYS aware of my scoliosis. My curves were significant and I felt very visible in bathing suits, tighter fitting tops and dresses (hems) and maybe not as noticeable in other clothing, but I felt that was ALL people could see. Also because of the curvatures in my spine my hips were off by an 1″, so if I was over tied or not paying attention I had a slight limp. I only knew of this limp when co-workers or friends would suddenly out of the blue ask me if I hurt my ankle (and I cringed at that sentence as if they had just “outed” me and my secret)
So let’s fast forward, four pregnancies (of toll on my body) later and I’m finally ready to work on me. Saying I was a skeptic as I sat in Dr. Laura Lardi’s office that first visit is an understatement. I had been told for 25 years that there was nothing I could do to “fix’ or “correct” my scoliosis. Well I happy to say that after a year of treatment with Dr. Lardi I am forever changed. I’m smiling ear to ear as I share this part of my story. My shoulders are now even, I went from a 20lbs weigh difference on one leg to a 2lbs difference. My limp is more of a stylized walk (lol) I wish Chiropractic Care was more widely suggested to patients via their doctors. I can’t imagine how different my journey would of been if I had started this as a teenager. It’s actually too much to think about. It would have been life changing.
So….do I still check my back out in the mirror? YES I do. Maybe more so now, because it’s MY jaw dropping at the visible changes. I just can’t BELIEVE how different I feel in one year. I came to Evolve for chiropractic care and to hopefully have some physical changes occur, but I got more than that…..my whole spirit has been changed. I am forever grateful.
